Big brothers are stinky, mean, steal your toys, call you names, make you cry...but then before you know it...they give good hugs, become your cheerleader, buy you cool grown-up toys, and make you laugh when you want to cry over "stupid boys." No matter how old you get they don't seem to stop with the name calling or being stinky but you can't have it all, can you ;-)

I love you, Freddie. Thanks for being a great big brother...but you still are annoying...

I don't have any sweet candid photos of me with my older brothers from when I was little. Having one now would be a treasure to me. I love photographing children, especially when they are with their first best friends. Here is big brother G and little sister CC caught in a sweet moment in-between the sibling chaos that I understand so well :-)

The "E" family is amazing. They were able to look perfect when it felt like 100 degrees outside! I had the pleasure of photographing these kiddos a year ago and I am THRILLED their mom asked me to do it again! They have such beautiful eyes. The Billie Holiday song "Them There Eyes" (one of my all time favorites) comes to mind when I see this little ones bright blue eyes. It think the song is technically about brown eyes but Baby M's eyes definitely sparkle and bubble! She has grown so much over the past few months and is now scooting around and melting hearts everywhere. I loved taking her newborn photos and was completely flattered when her mommy asked me to take some more. I can't get enough of Baby M's sweet cheeks and hopefully I can babysit her soon ;-)

I'm going to get all mushy about these two...I met Sarah and Pat about nine years ago when we worked together at Canal Street Tavern. That was a GREAT time in my life! Lots of great live music and wonderful friends. I'm so glad Sarah and I have remained friends over the years and I was super excited to photograph their wedding! They were married a year ago today and are expecting a little baby this fall! Seriously can't wait to snuggle that baby!

These BFFs are so cute together! Little "T" and "G" met in preschool and became instant friends. This was just a random quick moment and I love how great they turned out! Those unplanned moments are the best :-)

These little guys got me thinking about my own BFFs and how I would be miserable without them. I'm so grateful for my girlfriends who are always there to listen, laugh, cry, and watch cheesy movies with me.

This is me with my oldest friend, Tammy. We met in first grade and have been through it all (Including crushing on the same guy! Eeeek!). Even though we are hundreds of miles away from each other, just hearing her voice in a voicemail reminds me that she's still got my back. We were such silly little kids and now as women, I'm so glad to still have her as a part of my life. I even got to photograph her as a beautiful bride at her wedding! Thank you, Tammy! You're the best!

Green Tuesday

This Green Tip is actually from my son, Elliot. He came home from school last week and told me that he learned when we brush Chaplin (our fluffy, orange, house kitty) we should put the hair from the brush outside in an onion bag or hanging basket. Birds will use the pet hair to help build their nests. Chaplin is quite the fluff ball so I'm happy to have learned a positive use for all the excess. This goes for dog hair, too. Thanks, Elliot!

Green Tid Bit Tuesday

Green Tid Bit: Did you know that every ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees? Paper makes up more than half of our landfills. That's a lot!!! Most of the time we throw it away because there is not a convenient recycle bin available. It's worth a try moving the recycle bin next to the trash can to see if there's a decrease in the amount of total waste when it's your actual "trash" day. I'm going to try it :-)

I'm so grateful to live in a neighborhood full of trees! I look forward to every spring, summer and fall when they change colors. On a beautiful day a few weeks ago, the trees were in full bloom and it was breathtaking. The wind was blowing and the white petals from the Bradford Pear trees were falling like snow. I was very lucky to have my lovely neighbor model for me...Thanks, Micaela!

I've been really into the 3 Rs lately: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. I have found some great sources and decided to start a Tuesday blog post to share them with you. Some of the info may be pretty well known but if it's new to me, it might be new to you :-)

Green Tid Bit: Did you know that one (just one) recycled aluminum can save enough electricity to operate a TV for 3 hours!?! I didn't! That's amazing! This info will definitely keep me saving my cans to be recycled.

Happy Mother's Day

At 12:56PM April 25, 2000, I became a mom. I was so young and scared. I read several how-to books and prayed that I would do a good job. No book ever prepared me for how much joy I would experience. Every year Elliot gets older is my new favorite age/year. He has grown to be healthy, smart, kind, funny, handsome, thoughtful, talented...the list goes on. In my terror and inexperience I must have done something right. I miss the days when he was a little bean swaddled in a blanket but now I so enjoy how we've become friends and laugh uncontrollably together. Wherever I am and I notice that it's 12:56, I smile because it was the first time I met my son. He knows this because, of course, I annoy him by talking about it all the time. Today he gave me a clay sculpture of a clock at 12:56 so that I can always be smiling. This Mother's Day is my new favorite day with Elliot and I look forward to tomorrow and the next day...and the next...

Remember this beautiful Mom? Her family and I got together again to photograph her Zumba promo shots. This was such a fun shoot! I love this girl! Jasmine is a senior at Stivers School of the Arts. She is a phenomenal dancer so of course I had to make her dance for her senior pictures.
